If your vehicle is equipped with the Auto Start-Stop system3, the engine will automatically shut off when your vehicle is stopped and restart when you release the brake pedal to help reduce fuel consumption.
The Auto Start-Stop system is always on unless you turn off the Auto Start button, located on either the center console or dashboard (depending on your vehicle model).
Here’s how the Auto Start-Stop system works:
When you put your foot on the brake and come to a complete stop, the engine shuts off.
The engine will restart automatically — without any delay — when you release the brake pedal.
In some situations, your vehicle may restart automatically, for example to:
- Warm up the engine
- Recharge the battery
- Maintain interior temperature
