What To Do After Buying Your Vehicle
Get auto insurance
Before you can leave the dealership with your new vehicle, you’ll need to let your insurance agent know of your new acquisition and get insurance on it. If you traded in a vehicle, let your agent know so that vehicle can be taken off your policy.
If you need help finding the right auto insurance, you can get a quote from the Ford Motor Company Insurance Services Program by calling 877-367-3847 or visiting fordautoinsurance.com.
Register the vehicle
With the proof of insurance, you can register your vehicle, including purchasing or transferring existing license plates. You cannot merely remove license plates from another vehicle in your possession and put them on your new vehicle. DO NOT leave the proof of registration in your vehicle. Along with your license, carry it with you. In the event your vehicle is stolen and stopped by a police officer, the car thief can present your registration and claim that you loaned him the vehicle.
Store the title
You will be issued a copy of the title (when the vehicle is paid off, you will receive the original). As with the car registration, DO NOT leave it in the vehicle. Instead, store it in a secure place such as a safe or security box.
Review the Owner Guide
Read the Owner Guide and learn about your vehicle’s features and safety items. Make sure you understand them and know how to use them. Some of them may seem basic, but they could possibly save your life.
Activate your Vehicle Health Report
If your vehicle includes SYNC®, you will need to activate your Vehicle Health Report service online before you run your first Vehicle Health Report.
Just register for a SYNC owner account and then follow the instructions to activate Vehicle Health Report and set your Vehicle Health Report preferences. Once you activate the service, you should be able to run a report the same day.
Start good maintenance habits
Simply put, the best thing you can do for your vehicle is getting regular scheduled maintenance and your local Ford or Lincoln Dealership is the best place to go for it.
