Understanding Your Vehicle’s Payload

Whether you’re moving a friend’s furniture, loading up home-improvement supplies or packing for a road trip, your cargo area will most likely get a lot of use.
But every vehicle – even our toughest Ford trucks – has a limit for how much weight it can carry safely. That limit is called the payload.
Consequences of exceeding your payload
  • Premature tire wear
  • Excessive wear and tear on your suspension system
  • Possible voiding of warranty coverage
Find your vehicle’s maximum payload
The maximum payload for your vehicle can be found on the Tire Label on or near the driver’s side door.
Subtract any added weight
The maximum payload does not include any aftermarket or dealer-installed equipment. It also does not include the weight of any passengers, cargo or fuel. The weight of all these must not exceed the payload number on your Tire Label.
